Welcome to Belfast Bay & Beyond!
We take great pride in all
that our communities have to offer along this beautiful stretch of Midcoast Maine.
The diversity of the rich cultural experiences you will find here are unparalleled,
whether you come for outdoor recreation, a varied selection of the arts, an exciting
food environment, or unique shopping. As you browse through this guide, you'll
find the 5 day itinerary that offers helpful suggestions for your visit.
Nothing says Maine more than our scenic Midcoast treasures. In Stockton Springs,
visit Fort Point on Cape Jellison for an up close look at one of Maine's coastal light-
houses (cover photo). In Searsport, Moose Point State Park affords expansive views
of the ocean, and woodsy walking paths. In Belfast, stroll the pedestrian bridge
across the harbor, then enjoy a walking tour of the historic downtown. If you want
to stick your feet in the sand, then Lincolnville Beach is the place for you. While
you're there, take a hike up Bald Rock Mountain for a glorious view from above.
Foodies will find dining experiences to savor throughout Waldo County. Our restaurants
offer delicious fare and a wide variety that will satisfy every palate. Be sure to enjoy a de-
lectable lobster dinner overlooking Penobscot Bay. Once a month, a full block on Main
Street in Belfast is closed to traffic so local farmers can market their fresh produce. You
can also visit the Market on Front Street every Friday.
Visit our downtowns or the shops along route 1 for some of the most unique shopping
in Maine. At our locally owned stores throughout Waldo County, you'll find books
to suit any interest, fashionable clothing, supplies for the green home, the oldest
shoe store in the country, handmade pottery, antiques, and more. Belfast is home to
the largest selection of art galleries in a city its size in Maine. Be sure to relax upon
one of the artistic benches along the streets in downtown Belfast, brought to us by
Waterfall Arts, an art school and gallery.
During the second weekend in July, be sure to attend Arts in the Park for an outstand-
ing variety of artwork, fine crafts, and live music. Enjoy one of the musical or theater
performances at the Unity Center for the Performing Arts, the Belfast Maskers, or the
Marsh River Theater. Take in a movie at our local art deco theatre. In Searsport, visit
the Penobscot Marine Museum for a true appreciation of our rich maritime heritage.
Belfast Bay area will provide you with days of fun and enjoyment, so be sure to book
plenty of time at any of our local accommodations. While you're here, we hope
you'll consider a return stay or, better yet, one that will last a lifetime.
On behalf of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce and the community we serve,
we wish you an enjoyable visit! When you are in town, stop in and say hello...
