Midcoast Leadership Academy visits Augusta State House

On April 30 Senator Christopher Rector,Thomaston, hosted the Midcoast Leadership Academy, Class 4, at the State Housein Augusta for their "Government Day".  Robin McIntosh and Lori Roming, coordinators of the program, lead the group through debates on the Bottle Redemption Repeaquestion in the morning, followed by a State House tour.  Senator Rector gave a bird’s eye viewof the legislature and how both the House and Senate work.  A follow-up debate on the Right to Work question closed out the morning. The afternoon included lunch in the Cross Café, Committee session observations and a Q & A with Senator Rector.  Representative Erin Herbig, Belfast, made an unexpecte visit to welcome the MLA class and to share her inspiring experience as first-term state representative.

Old Cars, Planes Highlight Owls Head Event

Classic cars, antique airplanes highlight the action at the Owls Head Transportation Museums Ford & Chevy Car Meet & Antique Aeroplane Show, May 28 - 29. Owners of pre-1991 cars, trucks and motorcycles—of any make or model—are welcome to exhibit their vehicles on the Museum’s Runway 17. Ford and Chevrolet are the featured marques. Exhibitors and a guest get in free.

“What better weekend than Memorial Day to salute these iconic American brands,” said Assistant Director Steve Hatch. “If you own an antique, classic or special interest vehicle—or you simply enjoy seeing them up close—this show is for you. We are expecting a great turnout, with vehicles from all over the state and beyond. It’s a great way to start the rally season.”

OdLaW Band to Perform at Bowen's Tavern in Belfast

Waldo county's OdLaW will bring their distinctive mix of danceable grooves to Bowen's Tavern, at their new location, 181 Waterville Rd., Belfast (Rt. 7 & 137), on Saturday, May 21 at 9:00 pm. Since the recent release of the trios debut cd, OdLaW 1, available at bull moose, the Belfast Coop and odlaw.org, the band has garnered critical acclaim for their original songs, radio airplay throughout the state including featured artist of the week on WERU, and performed at the Bull Moose Record Store Days event. Drawing on decades of material and experience, musicians Gary Grant, percussion, Sam Ladd, guitar/vocals, and Jerry Weaver, bass/vocals deliver an eclectic blend of americana rock 'n' soul, from Johnny Cash to The Cure, sure to entertain. The band has released a music video, Wilted Flowers, available for viewing on Youtube and at their web site, odlaw.org.
