MICRO-ENTERPRISE FUNDING FOR BELFAST BUSINESSES

E-mail Print PDF

Here is a great opportunity for individuals and small businesses to receive funding to help their businesses grow. There will be a workshop 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 21st at the offices of Our Town Belfast.

In an effort to assist some of its smaller businesses, the City of Belfast is attempting to obtain a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Micro- Enterprise Assistance Grant. If the City were to receive this grant, it would in turn be able to provide loans or grants to Belfast businesses, which could be used for working capital, interior renovations, and/or exterior improvements (such as signage, painting, siding, awnings, lighting, and display windows). Zero Dark Thirty Discussion At The Colonial Theatre

ZERO DARK THIRTY AT THE COLONIAL

Director Kathryn Bigelow’s stark new film, which has been nominated for five Academy Awards while generating substantial controversy, opens at the Colonial Theatre in Belfast on Friday, January 25. The film’s subject matter — the U.S. efforts against Al Qaeda in the wake of 9/11 – is directly relevant to the upcoming Camden Conference “The Middle East: What Next”. Therefore, the Conference is pleased to sponsor a moderated discussion of the issues raised by the film with audience members following the Saturday, February 2 matinee screening of the film (check listings for time).

The discussion will be led by Bob Rackmales, a member of the Camden Conference Advisory Council. During his 32 year career in the US Foreign Service Bob dealt with terrorism in such places as Somalia, Italy and the Balkans and with the issue of torture and mistreatment of prisoners as Director of the Office of Human Rights at the State Department. The Middle East has been a focus of several of his courses at the Senior College at Belfast, most recently on American misperceptions of the Middle East.

The mission of the Camden Conference is to foster informed discourse on world affairs through year-round community events, public and student engagement, and an annual weekend conference.
