spectacular bicycling in the area. Explore the
remains of historical Fort Pownall and Fort
Point Light, a 31-foot square lighthouse dating

MOOSE POINT STATE PARK

On the coast between Belfast and Searsport,
this 183-acre parcel with a Penobscot Bay
panorama has grassy lawns and a shore hiking
trail through the pine groves. Look across and
see Islesboro and the mountains of Acadia.
Castine is about seven miles across the water.
Explore the rocks and tide pools. Picnic
tables, outhouses, open field with an ocean
breeze. $3 per car.
SWAN LAKE STATE PARK

Located six miles north of Belfast at the north
end of Swan Lake, the park has 67 acres. Go
swimming or play horseshoes. Lifeguards, a
large pavilion, and facilities for volleyball make
it a perfect spot for family reunions. Open
Memorial DayLabor Day, 9 amsunset.
LAKE ST. GEORGE STATE PARK

The 360-acre park is halfway between Belfast
and Augusta. A great place to swim, the
1,017-acre spring-fed lake has lifeguards on
duty. Many of the 38 campsites are right on
the shore. Hot showers and toilets. Open May
15September.
FRYE MOUNTAIN STATE GAME
MANAGEMENT AREA

Only 20 minutes from Belfast, the 5,111-acre
game preserve offers great vistas from atop the
small peak of Frye Mountain. Fire tower sits at
the summit, a pretty easy climb with drivable
old roads. Fields and meadows all over the
preserve are perfect for picnics.
