Waldo County is fortunate to be served by a variety of healthcare providers that includes a general hospital, several community clinics, a mental-health center, and two home health services. Supplementing these are an occupational health clinic, chiropractic care, a retirement community, and three nursing homes.
WALDO COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL
Waldo County General Hospital is a fully licensed, accredited acute care hospital offering a full range of diagnostic, therapeutic and health education programs. The services provided are unique for a community hospital of its size and location.
Highlights are a Renal Dialysis Unit and an Inpatient Hospice Suite. With a multi-specialty medical staff of more than 75 physicians, WCGH completes 50,000 out-patient visits, 2,200 admissions and 2,000 surgical procedures annually. Waldo County General Hospital is entering the 21st century with an expansion project including three additions to the main building totalling 50,000 square feet, and renovation of 30,000 square feet of existing space focused on patient friendliness in every service area. In May, the hospital celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Annual events that provide free screenings and education include the Waldo County Health Fair, Diabetes & Hypertension Clinic, and Community Speakers Series. Classes, individual counseling services, and support groups are also available.
